As a judge in the Hong Kong courts, he had publicly participated in pro-CCP activities, and supported hostility towards protesters. He had also sentenced numerous protesters to imprisonment in the Umbrella Movement of 2014 (“判刑法官楊振權曾出席反佔中”, 2020).
身為香港法官，他曾出席親中共的活動，又支持香港警察以暴力對待示威者。他亦曾經在2014雨傘運動後，重判多名示威者。
